A new Victorian Government scholarship program offers financial support for mental health nurses undertaking postgraduate study.
Strengthening mental health workforce

Up to 70 Victorian Postgraduate Mental Health Nurse Scholarships will be awarded to nurses in Victoria.  

This exciting opportunity is available to mental health nurses currently enrolled in a semester 1, approved postgraduate course. 

Mental Health Reform Victoria has developed the scholarship program in partnership with the Office of the Chief Mental Health Nurse.   

The Australian College of Nursing (ACN) is managing applications through its website.  

Eligibility Criteria 

Applicants must be: 

  • An Australian citizen or permanent resident of Australia. 
  • A Registered Nurse who holds a current Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia registration. 
  • Currently working or intending to work in a mental health setting or in a public health setting where a key part of your role is to provide mental health support within Victoria. 
  • Enrolled to study either a Graduate Diploma for Mental Health Nursing or Masters of Mental Health Nursing in semester 1, 2021.

The scholarship program is part of a workforce reform package recommended in the interim report of the Royal Commission into Victoria’s Mental Health System.  

The reforms aim to expand and better support Victoria’s mental health workforce. 

Planning is underway to deliver 140 scholarships annually from 2022.
