The Victorian Government is investing $5.05 million in the scholarship program in 2021 and 2022.

The scholarship program aims to develop the specialty skills needed in the profession to care for Victorians experiencing mental illness or psychological distress.

This year, scholarships have been awarded to 124 nurses working in mental health settings in metropolitan and regional Victoria.

The scholarship pays the full course cost of a Graduate Diploma in Mental Health Nursing or contributes to a Master of Mental Health Nursing.

The Australian College of Nursing (ACN) administers the scholarship program on behalf of the Victorian Government.

Applications are now open for 140 new scholarships for 2022. For more information, including eligibility criteria, visit Victorian Postgraduate Mental Health Nurse Scholarships - Australian College of Nursing.

The Royal Commission into Victoria’s Mental Health System recommended a series of initiatives to grow and better support the workforce, including 140 annual postgraduate mental health nurse scholarships.

Mental health nurses are registered nurses who specialise in mental health and are the largest workforce in the mental health system. They work across a range of health settings, caring for people who experience mental ill health or psychological distress, and support them towards recovery.

The scholarship program will help prepare nurses for advanced clinical leadership roles and support the expansion of the nursing workforce in the system.
